Matching the right collies with the right homes

Collie Rescue League of New England has more than 100 volunteers who visit homes of prospective adopters to get to know applicants and determine whether their homes provide a safe and healthy environment for a collie.   We kindly ask that our volunteers also be League members.

We contact applicants to schedule home visits a few weeks after they submit their applications. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to meet other collie-loving folks and also learn more about what type of collie the family is seeking.

Using the information potential adopters provide to us on their applications, we get an idea of what type of collie would be the best fit for that home. Our visits either reinforce or change this original perception but always give us a better understanding of what kind of collie to pair with an applicant.

A collie that is perfectly happy taking long naps and resting at its owners feet while they relax on the couch won’t be paired with an outdoors enthusiast who can’t sit still. At the same time, a collie that came from a farm or expansive property where they roamed freely doesn’t belong in a home on a busy city street with an owner who works long hours.

We provide our home visit volunteers with an informational sheet about CLRNE to leave with the potential adopter and also ask you to kindly submit a home visit report.

Thank you for assisting us with this important step in our thorough application process.
